A Future Without Apps: How Artificial General Intelligence Will Reshape Daily Life

Imagine a world where dozens of apps become obsolete. A single AI agent handles everything—scheduling, calling, ordering food, and managing paperwork. This is the promise of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), and it’s quickly becoming part of our daily lives.

During a thought-provoking seminar hosted by WIZ.AI in Singapore on November 7, 2023, Dr. Hongjiang Zhang, IEEE and ACM Fellow and a member of the U.S. National Academy of Engineering, shared a bold vision. He emphasized that we shouldn’t fear AI for its potential to replace jobs. Instead, we should prepare for the Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) era, which will generate new roles and opportunities we haven’t yet imagined.

Startups and tech giants alike are entering this space with force. With the rise of tools like ChatGPT, the software industry is undergoing a massive transformation. According to Dr. Zhang, this shift will deeply affect how we live and work.

Dr. Zhang explained that Large Language Models (LLMs), like the ones developed by OpenAI, Microsoft, and Google, are revolutionizing productivity. Rather than focusing on narrow, industry-specific tools, we now have foundation models capable of handling text, images, and even video—breaking down previous barriers of interoperability.

He encouraged people to think of ChatGPT as not just a chatbot, but a platform—a foundation for AI that can support a wide range of tasks. This shift could open up massive commercial opportunities and new digital infrastructures.

Referencing OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Dr. Zhang called this shift the fourth technological revolution, following agriculture, industry, and computing. He cited a U.S. labor study showing that 80% of jobs could see at least 10% of tasks influenced by LLMs, with higher-income roles potentially more affected. But rather than a cause for concern, this change offers a chance to evolve.

So what happens to jobs that are impacted? Dr. Zhang believes that AGI won’t lead to mass unemployment or widespread idleness. Instead, it will inspire new business models, platforms, and entire companies built on AGI technology.

Tasks like writing documents, transcribing meetings, generating code, and chatting with customers are already being automated. Dr. Zhang predicts the end of traditional app stores—replaced by platforms where AI plugins fulfill user needs in one place. This could drastically reshape B2B business models and how services are delivered.

In the Software as a Service (SaaS) world, customer support may be the first to transform. A recent international survey revealed that over 57% of global companies plan to use ChatGPT in their support operations. The most valuable B2B companies may soon be those that provide services for this new AI-first ecosystem.

Take WIZ.AI as an example. This fast-growing Voice AI provider in Asia is setting the pace in practical LLM applications. With its tailored, multilingual, and multimodal tools, WIZ.AI supports a wide range of industries. It has already achieved over 95% accuracy in telephone orders, cutting operational costs by half.

By delivering voice experiences that feel natural and intuitive, WIZ.AI is demonstrating how LLMs can go beyond experimentation and drive real results—setting the stage for broader industry adoption.

The AGI era is not science fiction—it’s happening now. Instead of fearing the change, businesses and individuals should look for ways to adapt, upskill, and harness AI to unlock new possibilities. Companies like WIZ.AI are leading the way, showing that AI isn’t just a tool—it’s the next platform for innovation.
